Youth Development under the capable guidance of Christopher Cloete, is considered a portfolio equally important to the other portfolios of Kaapjag. However, this is undoubtedly the most essential portfolio in KAAPJAG’s efforts to protect our freedom to hunt, as well as own, and use firearms.

Exposing the youth to hunting, sport shooting and firearms will in time, undoubtedly have a positive impact on our growth but will more importantly ensure the survival of hunting and firearm ownership for the generations to come.

This portfolio is nowadays perhaps even more important that in the past. Our current generation of children and millennials are simply not sufficiently exposed to responsible firearm ownership and the wholesome activities that can safely and legally be had with firearms. The youth need to be exposed to sustainable and responsible hunting practices and the wonderful world of sport shooting, be it competitively or for recreation.

This portfolio will of course mainly revolve around firearms and involve a curriculum designed to gradually guide the students to be future knowledgeable and safe firearm owners who understand the tremendous responsibility that comes with the use of firearms.  

Christopher is an avid sport shooter and firearms enthusiast and is knowledgeable to a level that shames most of us. He is a very capable shot and reloader and his technical knowledge is astounding, to say the least. “Precision” is his middle name and perfection undoubtedly and unsurprisingly, brings success to all his endeavours.

Christopher has been working with the youth in other areas, for many years. This was mainly focussed on outdoor-related youth development work. He finds no greater pleasure than to see a young person grow and achieve confidence and competence.

The Kaapjag youth development courses for the Cape Metro will kick off early in 2025 and this program will eventually be rolled out to our other branches as well.

Christopher will guide the roll out of the programme throughout and we have no doubt that he will be very successful. He is the right man for the task, and we wish him well in developing young people to become competent future firearms users and owners.
